The commercial property market 2008/09

Requests for warehouse space remain stable

Despite the financial crisis, demand on the submarket of commercial property rental has remained stable during the reporting period 2007/2008. In total, the Office of Economic Development received 140 requests for warehouse space totalling around 220,000 m².

Industry sectors and unit sizes

The distribution of enquiries by industry sector has remained practically unchanged and continues to reflect the broad range of industries represented in Düsseldorf.

Size preferences are another aspect that has seen no significant change. Demand for floor areas under 1,000 m², coming from small tradesmen’s workshops, retailers and service providers, continues to make up the majority of requests that come into the Office of Economic Development (66%). The size classes up to 4,000 m² are primarily taken up by wholesale, retail and warehousing, as well as other services (theatrical operations, trade fair events and concerts). The logistics, wholesale and export sectors continue to dominate size classes over 4,000 m².
